Article: Neurodiversity Week - The reality not the hashtag

Neurodiversity Week - The reality not the hashtag

If you had asked me ten years ago whether I was Neurodiverse, I would have laughed. I was just “a bit forgetful,” “a bit chaotic,” “a bit too much.”

But the signs and ‘crazy eyes’ were there all along.

Like so many women, my Neurodiversity went unnoticed by teachers, by family, and by me until menopause came along and ripped off the mask I didn’t even know I was wearing. Suddenly, all the coping strategies I’d built over a lifetime stopped working. The cracks weren’t just showing; they were gaping. And the world was finally using words I’d never thought applied to me: ADHD, Autisim and executive dysfunction.

Here’s the thing: I know there’s a trend of calling Neurodiversity a superpower, but let’s be honest. For most of us, it feels less like laser vision and more like dragging a ball and chain through quicksand. Nothing is empowering about constantly feeling behind, like the world is built for people who can function effortlessly while your brain runs ten tabs at once, and you have no idea where the music is coming from.

And yet… despite all this, I wouldn’t trade my brain for another. Because buried under the chaos, there’s something else - resilience, creativity, and an ability to think in ways other people don’t. The guts to take risks, dive into entrepreneurship without a rulebook, and trust instincts over textbooks.

I may not have a degree, but I have vision, determination, and a refusal to believe that credentials define worth. I want the next generation of women to know this: life doesn’t stand still just because you don’t fit a system designed for someone else.

I stongly believe that the future belongs to those who think differently. I am deeply committed to raising awareness and supporting the brilliant neurodiverse minds of tomorrow. The creatives, the inventors, the rule-breakers who see the world through a different lens. I know firsthand the battle against the inner voice that whispers; you're lazy, you're not smart enough, no one likes you, and you’ll never be enough.

But here’s the truth: Neurodiversity is not a flaw - it’s a force. I hope to inspire young entrepreneurs to trust their instincts, embrace their unique way of thinking, and take the kind of bold risks that neurotypicals wouldn’t dare because that’s where the magic happens.

That’s where the future is built.

As a new small business, we wanted to find a meaningful way to celebrate Neurodiversity Week, as its a cause very close to our family. And for us, that meant giving back to our local community. That’s why we’ve partnered with Tomorrow’s Women in Birkenhead, an incredible grassroots charity providing vital support to vulnerable women. Some of the life-changing services they offer include mental health support, domestic violence support, social inclusion, alcohol and substance abuse, legal services.

This week, we are donating a portion of every sale to Tomorrow’s Women to help sustain their life-changing work within the community.

But it doesn’t stop there - I am so excited to get involved personally, offering my time and experience to support their mission and the women they serve. Because when women lift each other up, we all rise.

Whether you were diagnosed at 5 or 50, whether you’re thriving or just surviving, your value is measured in your grit, your ideas, and your way of seeing the world that no one else can.

So, if you’re like me - figuring it out as you go, sometimes flying, sometimes floundering - know this: you are not alone.
